Published Date: Wednesday November 2005
Oval House Theatre is proud to announce we have won the Eclipse Award, a major award presented by the Theatrical Management Association, the UK’s pre-eminent body representing all Britain’s major theatre organisations.
The Eclipse Award is given to an individual or organisation that has done most to further the aims of the Arts Council England Eclipse Report, which addresses the promotion of cultural diversity in the performing arts and the elimination of racism.
Oval House Theatre was one of a total of 15 nominees from around the country - including mac Birmingham, the Nottingham Playhouse and the Ambassador Theatre Group, Glasgow - chosen to receive one of 5 awards in total. Oval House Theatre is the only London theatre to be nominated.
The Management Awards 2005 were presented at the TMA conference on 17th in November 2005 at The Tower Thistle Hotel, St Katherine’s dock.
Deborah Bestwick, Oval House’s Director who will be attending the awards says: “'Diversity isn't an initiative, or a scheme, it is at the heart of any valid expression of arts in a contemporary global, multi-cultural multi-everything London. And at Oval House it isn't bounded by the edges of the performing space or contained in a special season - it is year-round, and reflected in the cafe, the education work, the social mix. Our artists, staff, board and public all buy into the same vision, and drive the development of artistic diversity.”
“Oval House’s role in promoting diversity is very important. Oval House promotes diversity not just for its own sake but because it produces artistic quality” actor, Dende Collective
