Theatre Royal Reads @ Oval House

Theatre Royal Stratford East Youth Theatre and Oval House Youth Theatre unite to present a night of play readings inspired and written by the young people of East London: 3 different plays of 3 different styles exploring the universal themes of home, relationships and belonging.

Bobby James by Benjamin Kuffour
He feels disempowered. He feels alone. Abused by his dad. Bullied by his school mates. So he brings a gun into school one day – but is it for himself or someone else? Do you know? Does he know?

Submarine by the Newham Youth Parliament
A young Nigerian doesn’t want to go back. His life here in London is ‘safer’, he thinks. Seeking advice, he emails his oceanologist uncle but gets sucked into a world under sea!

Waiting for Kion by the Young Teenage Parents Project
A 16 year old girl meets her father for the first time since birth. He has opted out of the city life and lives from hand-to-mouth as a landscape artist. What will they both make of this reunion?

Theatre Royal Stratford East has a strong tradition of working with and for young people. They commit to nurturing young talent, addressing inequality and giving a creative voice to those that we hear not so often. They are our future artists, audiences and educators.
