The Travelling Sounds Library is a collaborative project produced by Forest Fringe, bringing together a rich and diverse range of audio works by some of the most exciting artists in the UK into a touring interactive library. As recording and editing technology becomes more accessible, more and more artists are taking the opportunity to experiment with audio-based performances, and the Library celebrates this cutting edge and fast growing medium.

The Library exists as a series of custom made hollowed-out hard back books, each containing an mp3 player, a programme, and a set of foldable headphones. Together these books travel the country, appearing at galleries, festivals, theatres and found spaces. Simply pick up a book and immediately find yourself immersed in a world of beguiling audio encounters.
Last year the Library toured to a variety of venues and festivals, including Latitude, Forest Microfestivals at BAC, Bristol Old Vic, and the Arches, Soundwaves Festival, Metal's Village Green, Forest Fringe in Edinburgh, and Turning Point Festival at the Roundhouse.
Currently the Library consists of twelve audio-works, including sound collages, interviews, stories, poetry and sonic art. Artists include Blast Theory, Duncan Speakman, Stan’s Café, Unlimited Theatre and SHUNT’s Mischa Twitchin, and the Library operates a rolling programme, allowing emerging artists to submit new pieces and showcase their work to a wide audience.
