Let’s Build is our offsite community project created to centre young people in our decision making as we move to our new location. In 2019-20 year we are working with local children to design and build their own pop-up outdoor performance space on Somerleyton Road in Brixton, next door to our new building (opening Spring 2021).
In Summer 2019, with support from 145 generous backers, including an amazing £12,000 pledge from the Mayor of London’s Crowdfund London campaign and a very generous £35,000 from the Co-Operative Foundation, we raised our goal of £50,845 to make Let’s Build happen.
Young people in Lambeth are working with our Creative Civic Producer Tobi Kyeremateng and our architect partners Matt + Fiona to co-design and self-build their own temporary structure, and to plan and create events for other young people across the borough. This April a small group of year 6 pupils will physically build the new space - hard hats and power tools included! All the participants will be able to perform in their pop-up venue throughout Summer 2020 and other youth groups, youth theatres, local organisations and schools are all invited to make it a place of community celebration.
