Rejoice With Us call out
Rejoice With Us – an opportunity for artists
Ovalhouse and All About You are seeking submissions from artists to be part of a night of new work.
Ovalhouse's summer season kicks off this May with a brand new show celebrating female sexuality, Rejoicing At Her Wondrous Vulva The Young Woman Applauded Herself.
On Monday 20th May, we are presenting Rejoice With Us, where we hand the Ovalhouse main stage over to YOU. We are seeking work to curate an uplifting evening of intimate stories.
Rejoice With Us is an invitation to widen the conversation around Rejoicing At Her Wondrous Vulva The Young Woman Applauded Herself. The show provokes an interrogation of the forces that shape our feelings around sex and gender in a patriarchal society, and we want to hear from a range of voices to contribute to, and continue, this conversation.
All forms of art will be considered to be presented: play scripts, monologues, poetry, music, dance, installation, performance art, clown etc.
In your work, tell us the secrets of your lust, your shame, your pride, your struggles, your triumphs, your fears and your hope. Be bold: if you could recreate the sexual landscape to suit you, what would it look like?
We are looking for:
Original work exploring one or more of the following themes: sex, sexuality, desire, pleasure, gender, the body, self-image, beauty, objectification, the male gaze, the female gaze.
We especially want to amplify marginalised voices, so we warmly encourage submissions from people who are LGBTQI+, people of colour, people living with disability, people who are survivors of abuse, people of faith, and anyone who feels generally underrepresented by the media.
If you are looking for inspiration for a submission, why not come and see Rejoicing At Her Wondrous Vulva The Young Woman Applauded Herself in previews before the submissions deadline?
The work must be ready to be presented or performed on Monday 20th May.
We are offering:
Performance space or gallery space in the Ovalhouse downstairs theatre/ Ovalhouse foyer on Monday 20th May, including basic stage lighting and sound operated by our stage manager, and promotion of the event by our marketing team.
An opportunity to share your work with an audience and to get feedback if you want it.
An opportunity to meet other exciting artists making work on topics that interest you.
Box office takings from the evening, split equally between all of the participating artists.
