Running time: 3hrs
Venue: Blue Studio
Award-winning new writing company Papatango are running two free workshops on playwriting - with travel bursaries available for anyone based outside the Greater London area.
You can book for one session - not both; as availability is limited, please pick your preference.
Papatango discover, produce and publish brilliant new playwrights, especially artists who would otherwise struggle to access professional theatre. Their discoveries have won BAFTAs, OffWestEnd, Royal National Theatre Foundation and Alfed Fagon awards, premiered in 20 countries, and worked in the West End. Their first book, Being A Playwright: A Career Guide for Writers will be published this autumn.
11am - 1pm, Saturday 22 September: Crafting Scenes
Led by Papatango's Producer Chris Foxon, this session tackles how to structure a scene and keep a play's narrative momentum going. It will explore how scenes fit within a broader structure and how to plan and shape them.
11am - 1pm, Saturday 20 October: Creating Characters
Led by Papatango's Artistic Director George Turvey, this session explores some ways of creating believable characters. It emphasises practical exercises and shares tips from award-winning writers.
If you want to request a bursary, please email Papatango directly on firstname.lastname@example.org ONLY AFTER Ovalhouse has confirmed your place. Please specify the session you are attending, and where you are coming from and why you need a bursary, as well as the amount you require. People on JSA or other welfare programmes will be prioritised.
