The Future

The Secret Life of You and Me by Lowri Evans

A live scrap book. An unfinished love affair. A made up true story.

  • Wheelchair Access
  • Tue 11 Feb – Sat 15 Feb, 7:45pm

Running time: 1 Hour

Venue: Downstairs

Hello. My name is Lowri. I made this show because, to be honest, I was approaching my thirtieth birthday and I didn’t have a lot to show for my life. I had started working with people with dementia and I noticed that the things they had to show for their lives were disappearing.
This show is my attempt to make a tiny mark on a page.

The Secret Life of You and Me is part live performance, part art installation. It's a heart-warming show about life, love, meanings and memory, which attempts to piece together the milestones of Lowri’s life, your life and all of our lives. A stunning scrapbook of storytelling, The Secret Life of You and Me is influenced by Lowri’s projects with people with dementia, conversations with strangers and a long distance relationship that spanned the UK and Brazil. The Secret Life of You and Me is about the space between us and how we connect across it.

Lowri is an artist based in Manchester. She makes performances, interventions, books and objects with strangers in unsuspecting places. Her work draws upon her background in visual art, experience in performance and commitment to social engagement. Lowri is interested in human experience, the mundane and the miraculous. She strips information away to the barest truths. Lowri is fascinated by the blurring of art and real life and creates autobiographical work that attempts to connect with others in imaginative and meaningful ways. She has a recognisable and original heartfelt and handwritten aesthetic.

Over the last few years she has worked with National Theatre of Scotland, Tate Liverpool, Cornerhouse, Contact Theatre, Hatch, Islington Mill, hÅb, The Lowry, Quarantine, David Hoyle, Small Things, Weeding Cane, Salford University and Grupo XIX de Teatro. She is one third of girl band Hotpants Romance, who have released two albums and toured the world and is one fifth of female performance troupe Eggs Collective. She is currently creating a performance at Casa do Povo, Sao Paulo about Rosa Luxemburg.

The Future is an artist-centred development collective, which focuses on the growth and development of early career artists in the North West. The Future actively supports, produces and provides free dedicated arts administration to contemporary artists and theatre companies; and is run by Lisa Mattocks and Jenny Gaskell.
